Lara Logan Opens Up About Being Sexually Assaulted in Cairo

CBS News chief foreign correspondent and 60 Minutes reporter Lara Logan finally breaks her silence in a 60 Minutes interview airing this Sunday night, opening up about the prolonged sexual assault she suffered in Tahrir Square in Eqypt two months ago.

On Feb. 11, Logan, her producer Max McClellan, cameraman Richard Butler, a bodyguard and an interpreter were in Cairo's Tahrir Square to cover the celebration following the overthrow of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, when the joyful celebration of the country's successful revolution suddenly turned terrifying. In the 60 Minutes interview, Logan tells Scott Pelley that her interpreter heard some words in Arabic that made him realize their group was suddenly in a dangerous situation. He advised Logan that they should get out of there, but at that moment Logan was separated from her team and then assaulted by a crazed mob.

"There was no doubt in my mind that I was in the process of dying," Logan says. "I thought not only am I going to die, but it's going to be just a torturous death that's going to go on forever and ever and ever."

Logan's assault has generated a lot of conversation, some of it having to do with the perilous position journalists (especially female ones) find themselves in when reporting in dangerous areas of the world. Logan, however, states that she vows to return to work as soon as she can, revealing that thinking of her two children back home helped her endure the assault -- before she was rescued by the nearby group of Egyptian women and soldiers.

Coming home to her kids, Logan says, "I felt like I had been given a second chance that I didn't deserve... because I did that to them. I came so close to leaving them, to abandoning them." Logan's 60 Minutes interview airs Sunday, May 1, at 7 p.m. ET on CBS.

Lindsay Lohan to Plead No Contest to Theft Charge

Despite insisting she is innocent, Lindsay Lohan will reportedly plead no contest to the misdemeanor theft charges she faces over a necklace.

According to TMZ, the 24-year-old is ready to accept responsibility and movie on with her life, as her lawyer, Shawn Holley, will go back to Judge Stephanie Sautner as early as next week to enter the plea in the case.

Lindsay has already been handed to a 120 day jail sentence for a probation violation, along with 480 hours of community service.

Sources have revealed that Lohan and her legal team believe that the judge will not add additional prison time on the theft charge, which would mean that LiLo would serve only her original 120 days and that would end it.

So the comedian has come clout when he speaks on Charlie Sheen, and he told AOL this week that the troubled actor's publicity tour is far more tragic than it is humorous.

"I think that's a train wreck and I feel bad for his two little kids because they're the bodies being pulled out of the train wreck," Morgan said while promoting Rio. "What's going to happen to them? But everybody thinks it's a joke."

Morgan, 42, is a father of three children and he has battled substance abuse problems himself. But his kids are grown up, and he hasn't spouted off to every media outlet available about his issues. Nor has he ever claimed to be "winning."

"While this a--hole is going on stage making a fool of himself, his kids are going to suffer and don't even know it because this is a cycle of abuse," Morgan said.

Shockingly, Sheen is yet to respond to these insults. We'd expect that to change any second now.

WATCH: Kara DioGuardi on 'Idol' Stint: "It Was Like I Broke Up the Beatles'

American Idol might be a heck of a lot of fun to watch, but things aren't always as pleasant when you're the sitting in the judge's chair. In an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show Tuesday morning, Grammy-nominated songwriter and former Idol judge Kara DioGuardi opened up about her new memoir, A Helluva High Note: Surviving Life, Love and American Idol (in stores now), and her experiences on the top-rated show.

In the book, DioGuardi describes her two-season stint on American Idol as "torture," elaborating to Lauer: "It took viewers awhile to understand why I was there. It was like I broke up the Beatles." Comparisons to Yoko Ono aside, DioGuardi says on Today, "(The producers) wanted the chemistry to be fresh, but it was difficult to come into something that was so established." Watch the interview below!

 

 

In the interview, Lauer repeats the speculations that DioGuardi was brought on the show to "keep Paula Abdul in line, so that she wouldn't go cray in contract negotiations" -- and DioGuardi demurs, saying: "I don't know that that was completely true. They wanted to mix it up." She adds the Idol experience -- which, in the book, she calls "mentally, physically and emotionally challenging" -- was ultimately a growing experience, and she hopes that sharing her story might "help others." In fact, DioGuardi says, "I have to say I have nothing but love for American Idol. I came through it. I'm stronger for it. I got to face some really big fears."

DioGuardi also reveals in the book that she was repeatedly molested by a teenage family friend when she was young, and her mother did nothing about it. DioGuardi tells Lauer, "It was a time when there were no Oprahs ... I think it was very hard for her to deal with."

The traumas continued in adulthood when she was date-raped by a "fairly well-known" producer. DioGuardi writes in the book, "The thing about date rape is you don't know it's happening until it's too late." Again, DioGuardi told no one, in the fears that she might hurt his career. Of her decision to include these traumatic experiences in the book, DioGuardi tells Today: "These are all things that affected my songs. Going through an experience like that is so difficult... a lot of those experiences ended up in kind of angry songs. For me, it was important to express why I got into these bad relationships. But... following my dream is what saved me."

As for why she doesn't name the producer who date-raped her, DioGuardi says: "It's not about that person. I don't want it to become about that person. I want it to become about all the other people who have been through this experience and tell them that you can get through it and you can be stronger for it."

Justin Bieber has already notched the third-highest-grossing documentary of all time with "Never Say Never," but now the teen titan is looking at branching out into scripted moves as well.

After his well-received turns on "CSI," the Los Angeles Times reports that Bieber is close to signing on to take the lead role in the buddy comedy "What Would Kenny Do?" opposite Ashton Kutcher. An anonymous source who was briefed on the project told the paper that the film delves into the relationship between a 17-year-old and his 30-something self, with the latter to be played by Kutcher, 33.

The movie, to be produced by Kutcher's Katalyst Entertainment and Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, will probably not get moving until next year because Bieber has touring commitments booked through 2012. Though the initial report said Bieber was "eyeing" the movie, an update posted late Wednesday clarified that the project has been under development for months "with Bieber both in mind and on board."

It wouldn't be the first time the dynamic duo has tried to hook up, coming on the heels of a reported meeting in January in which Kutcher discussed Bieber hosting a rebooted version of "Punk'd."

The "Kenny" script was originally described as an R-rated comedy about "a teenager who meets a hologram claiming to be the adult version of himself; the hologram then helps guide the teen through high school." It got a more PG-13 revision from "(500) Days of Summer" writers Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, who had Kutcher's successful character going back in time to help the awkward present-day Bieber.

Britney Spears' HYPE Night with Nicki Minaj

Stepping out in support of her newly-named opening act, Britney Spears joined up with Nicki Minaj at HYPE in West Hollywood, CA on Friday night (April 22).

The "Hold It Against Me" singer was joined by manager beau Jason Trawick as the pair mingled with the "Pink Friday" hitmaker following her concert duties at Staples Center earlier in the evening.

Also on-hand for the celebratory club fete was E! reality star Khloe Kardashian, who looked sexy in a black sheer ensemble while joined by a few gal pals.

Back to Nicki and Britney, the duo's club get-together comes just as a new "Hold It Against Me" remix was leaked online - with the new spin on the "Femme Fatale" track featuring Spears, Minaj and the song's writer, Ke$ha, all joining in on the high-energy all-female dance anthem.
