Britney Spears gave Sin City a thrill on Friday night, when she performed a surprise set of songs from her forthcoming Femme Fatale album. The 45-minute show -- Spears' first live performance since her 2009 Circus tour -- was kept top-secret until Friday night, when Spears couldn't resist spilling the beans on her Twitter.
"Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore. Whos coming to watch me take the stage TONIGHT @RainLasVegas at @PalmsLasVegas?" tweeted the pop star, adding, "You're all invited. Be there are be square bitch!"
Spears was booked as a "special guest" under -- of all people -- DJ Pauly D of Jersey Shore. (She tweeted an image of the marquee here.) After DJ Pauly's set at the Palms Casino Resort's Rain nightclub, Spears performed three songs -- complete with costume changes, sets and back-up dancers -- for the crowd of around 1500.
Spears began with her current single, "Hold It Against Me," which she sang in front of a prop electric chair. For the next number, "Big Fat Bass," she changed out of her sequined bodysuit and into a sexy black leather outfit with a policeman's cap. She belted out the song from inside a giant boombox while her boyfriend Jason Trawick watched from the VIP area.
As her finale, Spears performed "Till the World Ends," dressed in the night's most attention-getting costume: a corset with blinking red lights around the breasts (perhaps a logical next step after Katy Perry's firework bra and Christina Aguilera's light-up crotch). Spears finished the show in this triumphant pose -- and if that doesn't say "Britney's back, bitch!" then we don't know what does.
The performance, which got raves from the crowd, will air next week as part of an MTV special on Spears. All three songs are featured on her album Femme Fatale, which drops on Tuesday, March 29.

The world is still reacting to the news of an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on Friday (March 11). The devastating quake triggered a 10-meter tsunami that now threatens Pacific coastal areas including Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States. Celebrities have taken to Twitter to share their love and support for those affected by the natural disaster.
"I'm sending my thoughts and prayers and love to those in Japan who are hurting," Taylor Swift tweeted. Fellow pop princess Katy Perry shared a similar sentiment, writing, "My prayers go out to anyone that is being effected by the disaster in Japan. #prayforjapan."
Selena Gomez, who was just in the country, took to Facebook to express her concern. "Wow, I don't even know what to say, Japan. I was just there and you were all so wonderful to me," she wrote. "I am sending all my love, prayers and support."
Justin Bieber also tweeted about the news. "Japan is one of my favorite places on earth. ... It's an incredible culture with amazing people. My prayers go out to them. We all need to help." He added, "#prayforjapan."
"Our hearts and prayers are with all of our BSB family in Japan. We love you all so much. Please try to stay safe. ... Kisses and hugs from us!" the Backstreet Boys tweeted, with their tourmates New Kids on the Block adding, "Our thoughts are with all those around the world affected by the earthquake in Japan."
"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest wrote on Twitter, "Glued to TV watching this unreal earthquake footage out of Japan. Sending prayers to everyone affected. Unbelievable."
As the weather threatens his home state of Hawaii, the president tweeted a strong message of support. "Sending condolences to the people of Japan, particularly those who lost loved ones in the earthquake & tsunamis. U.S. stands ready to help."
"Glee" stars Lea Michele and Amber Riley also had kind words for those affected. Michele tweeted, "So devastating to hear about the huge earthquake & tsunami [in] Japan. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there." Riley added, "Omg my heart goes out to Japan. I pray this devastation stops."
Embattled actress Lindsay Lohan even seemed overwhelmed by the news, writing, "My mommy just woke my sister and i up to this! god bless those that are in fear."
"The images on the news are breaking my heart," Paris Hilton wrote online. "I am so worried for everyone in Japan. My thoughts are with you Japan. God bless you all."

The stars of The Real Housewives of D.C. may be hanging up their stilettos. Or they just won't be modeling them for TV viewers anymore. According to RadarOnline, the fifth city featured in the franchise didn't draw the huge-for-cable ratings that its predecessors did, and now producers plan to shut the show down.
The site also reports that the ladies involved -- Michaele Salahi, Mary Schmidt Amons, Lynda Erkiletian, Catherine "Cat" Ommanney, and Stacie Scott Turner -- have yet to be given this news. Which means they're finding out like we are -- through a gossip website. Maybe that's appropriate for a show about warring women with a knack for the sucker punch. It's still a little sad, though.
In this Access Hollywood clip from last August, Ommanney and Erkiletian sounded so confident about their season. "What we're hoping is that we raise the bar," said Erkiletian. "And that people will learn that each Housewives series is very different, based on the uniqueness of the ladies and the uniqueness of the cities that they represent." Asked whether she thought viewers would go for their DC-focused issues, she replied, "We'll find out based on the ratings just exactly what [viewers] really do love." And now we have.
The irony is that this season probably enjoyed the most advance buzz, thanks to the Salahis (Michaele and her husband Tareq) and their ethically questionable publicity stunt, crashing a white house state department dinner with cameras in tow. But if the media attention attracted viewers to the show, it didn't keep them there. The show just wasn't very interesting.
And in this world of highly dramatic dinner parties (and the violent brawls that sometimes can accompany them), boring is deadly.

EXCLUSIVE: Diddy did it. So did Madonna and Prince, and now you can add Lindsay Lohan to the list of celebrities who are opting for a single moniker, with the troubled star's mom, Dina, confirming to me that Lindsay plans to remove "Lohan" from her official name.
"Lindsay is dropping the Lohan and just going by Lindsay," Dina tells me, exclusively. "Plus, me and [younger daughter] Ali will be officially changing our last names back to my maiden name, Sullivan."
